There's an argument (that I don't fully agree with) that Firefly is so beloved by fans *because* it was canceled after half a season; that we were all blinded by the potential and it never could have lived up to expectations. I say I don't agree, but there's some truth there. It's possible it could have gone badly, and that if it had gotten the full season it would have just disappointed us. This "review" supports both sides of the argument. With a cast this talented and a setting that has so many potential stories, it should have been able to go at least two or three seasons before jumping the shark like this. But yeah, it could also have gone some very not shiny places.
I now live in a universe where it does exist. Whether or not Firefly is actually good or not, well how do you know my alternate reality isn't full of paid shills?
Man, thank God for season six. After Wash died and River took over as pilot, I had this unsettling, sad feeling that I was never gonna see this beloved crew again.
